First Annual Maple Grove Locks of Love Drive

We're proud to announce that Maple Grove's first annual Locks of Love Drive was a huge success! The charitable drive was sponsored by Salon Picasso with help from the Maple Grove Ambassador Program and was held from 10:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, January 20th on Main Street in Maple Grove. Many talented hairstylists volunteered their time to transform long flowing hair into stylish bobs for a good cause.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The high quality hair prosthetics are created from donated hair.

The drive in Maple Grove well succeeded expectations with 29 people donating hair ten inches or longer. People who wanted to support the cause but couldn't donate hair received salon haircuts and styles for $25 with all proceeds going to Locks of Love. In total, the event generated 29 feet of hair and $500.

We personally thank Salon Picasso for their generous contribution to Locks of Love along with the many other local businesses for their donations. This event was not only the first of its kind in Maple Grove, but it was the first event where our Ambassadors had a vision and worked with a candidate sponsor to create such an event. Last summer, Stephanie Plant, Gillian Key and Korbin Kvass (2006 Ambassadors) approached salon owner Ray Quist at our Sponsor Dinner. The idea was born and successfully came to fruition! Thank you to all who helped make this a noteworthy event! We're looking forward to January 2009?as Salon Picasso would like to make this an annual event!
