Who is eligible to be a Maple Grove Ambassador?

Must live, work, or attend school in Maple Grove or Osseo.

Must be a current high school sophomore or up to 21 years old.

Must I provide my own sponsor?
No, you are not required to provide your own sponsor. While candidates are welcome to secure their own sponsor, we are happy to assist those who do not have one. Each year, many local sponsors are eager to connect with candidates. The sponsorship fee is $350.
Who is in charge of selecting the three new Ambassadors?
An independent Selection Team is appointed. They will determine the team of three Candidates who would be the right fit for the Ambassador role. Their decision is strictly of their own choosing. Their selection is based on information provided in the candidate applications and as witnessed during all judged events.
What is the selection team looking for?
The selection team will choose new Ambassadors based on a combination of qualities, including strong communication skills, authenticity, poise, and a warm, approachable personality. Community involvement is also key, as we are looking for individuals who are actively engaged in making a positive impact. Above all, we seek role models who will represent Maple Grove with pride and serve as inspiring leaders in our community.
Does this program have a talent or swimsuit competition?
No, this program is not a pageant and does not include a talent or swimsuit competition.
Can a candidate be married?
NO. Our program is open to candidates who have never been married nor have had a marriage annulled, are not pregnant nor have children. Upon accepting the title, if chosen, the Ambassador agrees that she will not marry during her year of service. These rules are in conjunction with the Minneapolis Aquatennial Ambassador Organization rules.
Will I be disqualified if I miss a scheduled candidate event?
No, you will not be disqualified for missing a scheduled candidate event. While 100% participation is not required, we do ask that you inform us in advance if you are unable to attend for a legitimate reason. We understand that summer schedules can be busy and are happy to work with you. Our goal is to create a variety of candidate events to make the experience memorable, and we hope you can participate in as many as your schedule allows.
If I am chosen as one of the three Maple Grove Ambassadors, how much time is required?
Maple Grove Ambassadors serve a one-year term, with the busiest season typically running from May to August. During this time, you will attend local events and travel to other city festivals. Throughout the year, Ambassadors participate in various activities, including assisting at ISD 279 fundraisers, Breakfast with Santa, the Maple Grove Triathlon, Twin Cities Motion runs, and the Polar Plunge. You’ll also collaborate with community partners such as the Rotary, Lions, local law enforcement, and take part in special events like Sparkle Nights and the Winter Carnival. While attendance at every event isn’t required, we encourage you to participate in as many as possible to make the most of this rewarding experience.

Can I still be chosen as a Maple Grove Ambassador if I am going away to college?
Yes, absolutely! Most Ambassador appearances are scheduled during the summer months, allowing you to actively participate before heading off to college. Since this is a scholarship program, we are flexible and work around college schedules throughout the year. We fully support your collegiate aspirations and activities while ensuring you can still enjoy and contribute to this rewarding experience.
What do I receive if I become an Ambassador?
As a Maple Grove Ambassador, you will have a unique and rewarding opportunity to grow personally and professionally. At the conclusion of your Ambassadorship, you will receive a $3,000 educational scholarship, provided upon submission of a fee statement from the school of your choice. Additionally, you will be given a custom wardrobe to wear at all Ambassador events, which is yours to keep once your term is complete.
What will I gain by participating in the Maple Grove Ambassador Program?
By participating in the Maple Grove Ambassador Program, you will enhance both your personal and professional skills, including poise, presentation, public speaking, and increased self-confidence. This experience serves as a valuable stepping stone for your future career, offering opportunities to develop essential skills such as interviewing, networking, and building lasting connections with others. It will help you grow as a leader and prepare you for success in both your professional and personal endeavors.

How will my family be involved if I become a Maple Grove Ambassador?
Families play an essential role throughout the Ambassador’s year. They assist with transportation, fundraising efforts, and supporting events. Additionally, they help with the setup and takedown of "The Dream of Maple Grove" float at parades, making the experience a shared and memorable journey for the entire family.
